about the studio · new york, ny

a smallstudio, one lamp

Letterpress & Lantern writes down how founder-led businesses already sound, then sets it in type that holds.

Picture a fourth-floor room on Exchange Place at dusk: the radiator ticking, a brass lantern throwing a warm circle over a desk of proofs, a pencil that smells faintly of cedar. That circle of light is the whole studio.

why a copywriting studio sounds like a print shop

we kept the press’s two rules: set it slowly, and check it by hand.

Most business writing is made in a hurry, under fluorescent light, from a template. You can taste it: flat, faintly metallic, nobody’s kitchen.

We started Letterpress & Lantern for the founders who sounded wonderful in person and nothing like themselves on the website. The yoga teacher who talks about breath like weather. The freight-software founder who calls a late shipment “a coat left in the rain.” We record the real voice, underline the sentences with a grain to them, and set those on the page.

The “letterpress” half is the craft: every line pressed once, deliberately, and read aloud before it leaves the building. The “lantern” half is the hour we do our best listening, when the day’s noise drops and the room goes amber.

We work with small, founder-led B2B and wellness companies, one project at a time, from our desk on Exchange Place in New York. The person who interviews you is the person who writes your proof.

listening for the grain

On every call we’re hunting for one thing: the sentence you said without thinking. Here is what we hear, and what it turns into.

the founder said

“we just try to make people feel looked after, you know?”

We provide holistic, client-centered care solutions.

the founder said

“honestly, nobody wants another dashboard. they want Friday back.”

Our platform delivers best-in-class operational visibility.

the founder said

“the first cup is for the person, the second is for the pain.”

We offer an integrative approach to wellness.

03 / 04

four habits we won’t trade for speed

habit 01

read it aloud at a kitchen table

If a line clatters in the mouth, it clatters in the ear of your customer. It goes, and we write another until it sits easy.

habit 02

texture before adjectives

Steam on a lid, the squeak of a studio door. Detail does what “premium” never could.

habit 03

the fee is set in writing first

From $450 to $1,400, agreed before the first word. The price doesn’t drift on the days a sentence won’t come.

habit 04

write down the voice once, so you can stop re-explaining it

Your next hire, freelancer or assistant gets a one-page cheat sheet and sounds like you by the second email.

a day at the desk on exchange place

The studio keeps office hours, Monday to Thursday 9:30am–4:30pm and Friday until 3pm, and the rhythm inside them is stubbornly the same.

second pull, pencil only
9:30amKettle on. Yesterday’s proofs read aloud, once, to the empty room.
10:30amVoice interviews, headphones on, notebook open. Underlining the sentences that have a grain.
12:30pmLunch away from the screen. Walking the block, saying lines under our breath.
1:30pmSetting type: drafting, cutting, drafting again. Words like “solutions” go in the retire pile.
3:30pmProofs pulled and annotated for the founders waiting on them.
4:30pmLantern lit. Last read-through, then the desk is cleared for tomorrow.
